A new gig

Enter David Sutcliffe – My new client. I’ve been working for him for a month now on his project called, “GROUP” which is an outstanding display and chunk of RAW life.

I am his assistant editor. I am also blogging on his blog and helping out with any other thing he needs to call me up about. Next to him, I am the only other person who is/will see the 300 hours of footage, so I’m a good brain to bounce off his ideas to, as I can understand his context.

Overall, I am so far a little afraid and in love with this project all at once. It will be an unforgettable one, this is for sure.

I’ve been a fan of DeVotchKa since I saw them open for a Belle & Sebastian show in 2005 at the Fillmore in Denver, CO. I was in line waiting for my gin and tonic, with my back to the stage. The place hadn’t even begun to fill up yet. We were there a bit early, one might even say. When I heard the first song out of Nick’s mouth, my heart lept; it was instant love. I did a 180 degree pivot on my feet, and stared. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Six years later, It was a privilege and an honor to interview Nick Urata. Daniel, also a long time fan (who has shot their shows before even), scored a Sony F3 for the main angle of this interview. The Canon 1D in his hand was the B cam, and my 5D was used for photo stills and video cutaways. Everyone on that roofdeck in the Hollywood Hills that day had originated their relationships with each other and was even from Denver, CO at some point… And here we were, together (at last) on a beautiful afternoon, for a little chat.

TRON: Legacy Premiere

My favorite part of this whole edit, was being able to make the graphics. It gave me an excuse to learn how to TRON-ize everything. I consider myself a graphic designer, but rarely get the chance to really work these skills. Yay GLOWy stuff!

Besides doing Jeff Bridges, I couldn’t get enough…
